Learning Objectives

  • Illustrate indigenous world views of health and disease by using traditional stories and explore neglected causes of disease.
  • Discuss simple psychological practices that can be incorporated into any exisiting spiritual/religious practice to help address underlying issues that lead to addiction, unhealthly life, choices, insomnia, and depression
  • Explore the effects of the medicalization of menopause and learn how to apply naturopathic principles in the caring for women
  • Understand the scientific origins of epigenetic research and the difference between genetics and epigenetics
  • Understand how parental behaviors (including behaviors during pregnancy, just prior to conception, and even earlier in the parents’ lives) affect the prenatal, neonatal, childhood and adult health of their offspring
  • Understand the efficacy and safety issues surrounding conventional pharmaceuticals in the the pregnancy and post-partum populations 
  • Identify and provide research for the possible multiple underlying causes of depression during pregnancy and post-partum: stress, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, digestive imbalance, environmental toxicity, social situations, and others
  • Test and explain the role of Single nucleotide polymorphisms in breast cancer
  • Prevent drug:botanical interactions and drug:nutrient interactions related to genomics and breast cancer medications
  • Create an individualized working hypothesis for how the patient’s combination of individual
    biochemistry, exposures and constitution may have resulted in the development of breast cancer and how to change those factors to help prevent recurrence
  • Understand the endocrinological complications of PCOS and have new ideas and strategies for treating patients in the office.
  • Develop an increased awareness of the pelvic floor and integrate full body movement with the pelvic floor.
  • Use multiple approaches to increase the strength, flexibility, and coordination of the pelvic floor for clinicians and their patients.
  • Differentiate concentric and eccentric contractions of the pelvic floor.
  • Become familiar with current oncology treatments for ovarian cancer
  • Identify basic naturopathic strategies for patients receiving conventional cancer treatment.

 

Target Audience

 

The PANP conference is designed for Naturopathic Physicians, Family Practitioners, Gynecologists, Nurses and Nurse Practitioners, Homeopathic Physicians, Chiropractors, and other Complimentary Care Providers who are practicing or are interested in practicing integrative medicine with a particular interest in women's health.
